Dear IGGI Community,
IGGI’s work to Stop AAPI Hate in partnership with San Francisco State University was recognized in a recent CSU report to the California Legislature. The report states:
“In summer 2023, [SFSU] implemented Stop AAPI Hate leadership internships in partnership with community organizations (including the Institute for Good Government and Inclusion [IGGI]).
Sixteen high school, undergraduate and graduate student interns engaged in a group public records project (through the Freedom of Information Act) that focused on the bullying of Asian and Asian American high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. A variety of internships have helped to develop young leaders’ insights into the Asian American community.
Their research has revealed a gap in and a need for further youth activism and empowerment in fields such as anti-discrimination research, Ethnic Studies and the role of social media in fighting discrimination.
In spring 2025, SFSU is partnering with IGGI to sponsor a pilot internship for 15 interns to educate and empower young leaders with scientific approaches, critical thinking strategies and innovative applications of art therapy tools for coping and healing from burnout.” –(Relyea 2025, p.17)
